Papercast Lands at Miami International Airport
Real-time updates on Papercast e-paper displays ensure employees arrive at work on time.
Papercast, the world’s leading provider of solar-powered e-paper passenger information displays, has announced that the 35,000+ employees at Miami International Airport (MIA) now enjoy real-time travel updates when using the airport shuttle service. This bus service plays a crucial role in providing essential transportation connections for employees throughout the airport.
Operated by mobility company SP+, this initiative is a collaboration with Papercast’s North American partner, ETA Transit. ETA Transit specializes in transit systems and software solutions, offering a comprehensive toolkit designed to enhance transit operations and significantly improve the rider experience.
With the aim of ensuring that staff arrive at their posts promptly, airport management sought to facilitate timely transfers from parking areas to various on-site locations—and vice versa.
The solution features Papercast e-paper signage installed at each bus stop, seamlessly integrated with the ETA Transit SPOT® operations management and real-time tracking system. This setup allows employees to easily determine when the next bus is expected and its arrival times at different terminal locations. The SPOT® system’s real-time tracking empowers the airport to deploy additional buses as needed, ensuring that capacity aligns with peak demand.
Miami International Airport is drawn to the numerous advantages of Papercast e-paper displays. The solar power option is particularly appealing given Miami’s abundant sunshine, alongside the displays’ high visibility and readability in direct sunlight, and their swift installation process.
“The Papercast displays have been a real eye-opener,” says Nicole Castonguay, CEO for ETA Transit. “When clients like SP+ and Miami International Airport see how many ways these signs can be used to positively impact the rider experience, the conversation instantly changes from ‘Can we afford signs?’ to ‘How quickly can we get these at our stops?’ When customers pair these with our SPOT™ ITS system, a whole new world of passenger engagement options become possible.”
The distinct features of e-paper make it perfect for outdoor use, offering exceptional screen visibility even in direct sunlight. When combined with wireless connectivity and remarkably low power consumption, Papercast displays can be powered continuously by solar energy—eliminating the need for power or connectivity cables. This ensures that Papercast can be easily installed on existing poles or shelters, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly display technology.
“This partnership marks an exciting phase in the rapid adoption and growth of e-paper in public transit information. It comes at a time when transport services, across all segments in all corners of the globe, are looking for ways to make travel easier, more attractive and more sustainable,” comments Robert Bicket, CEO of Papercast. “We are delighted that Papercast is well positioned to meet this ever-evolving need.”
